Small Wind Turbines

There are several wind turbines classified according to size, construction and function. Very small turbines used to charge batteries or feeding to the grid with a rotor diameter up to 4m and nominal power rating of up to 3kW fits in with the category of micro wind turbines. 3kW to 50kW machines are in the small wind turbines category.

Regen focuses on micro and small (nominal power rating 3-50kW). The power in the wind is proportional to cube of the wind (when the wind speed doubles, the power increases by a factor of 8) and the swept area. The Home Power Magazine (www.homepower.com) has published an useful article that covers the energy analysis, efficiency issues, resource analysis, wind turbine selection and balance of system.

Regen has also developed back to back AC/DC/AC grid connected inverters for small scale wind turbine generators (both induction and permanent magnet types). Gaia 11kW Wind Turbine

The 11kW GAIA wind turbine has two blades (13 metre diameter ~ swept area of 133 sq.m),cut-in wind speed of 3 m/s and a rated wind speed of 11 m/s. The turbine is ideally suited for low wind regimes. The turbine is a proven machine developed according to the 'Danish design' which is basis for most of the large wind turbines on the market. It is based on a modular design using components that have been carefully selected to provide high quality, maximum reliability and low maintenance requirements. The GAIA 11kW wind turbine has been approved according to the official HB-standards laid down by the Danish Government.
