Powering one of Australia’s remotest locations

post

Mr. Shaji Mathews, a PhD student of Curtin University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is developing uninterrupted power supplies for remote locations. In conjunction with Regen Power, Mr. Mathews has designed and installed an innovative solar photovoltaic diesel hybrid system for the Veterans Retreat at Meentheena Station, 75km east of Marble Bar.

The retreat’s remoteness, extreme weather conditions combined with the fact that the nearest petrol station is more than 200km away, has them looking for an cost-effective uninterupted power supply. The hybrid system designed by Mr. Mathews and Regen uses solar power and a variable speed diesel generator to provide an optimal year round solution to the visitors of the retreat
