The three vital components to a successful career are hard work, a stick-to-the-plan mentality, and timely pivot, says Regen Power managing director Nikhil Jayaraj.
And as the leader of a WA business with a brand name known across Australia, he should know.
Winner of the 2020 prestigious 40 Under 40 award, Nikhil’s vision to provide affordable, accessible power through sustainable solutions and innovative technologies has seen Regen Power responsible for more than 35,000 solar installations.
After completing double master’s degrees in engineering management and e-business from the University of Wollongong, Nikhil set about making his mark by playing an instrumental role in commercialising solar power systems in the Australian and overseas renewable energy sector.
In 2017-2018, he project managed the design and commissioning of 500kW floating power plant in India.
Also in 2018, he administered a unique USD$50M 50-megawatt ground-mounted solar farm project in central Vietnam.

Ranked as 55th fastest growing company in Australia by Financial Review in 2020, Regen also succeeded in making it into the Financial Times list of top 500 high-growth Asia-Pacific companies in 2020 and 2021 – a hugely impressive achievement.
Nikhil said the key to Regen’s success was customer service excellence.
“It’s the number one job in any company,” he said.
“It’s the ‘personality’ of the business that makes customers stay.

“We also provide a lot of community support, installing many free solar systems for NFPs and families in need.”
Nikhil is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration at Curtin University.
His research topic, An Empirical Study on Residential Solar and Battery Adoption in Australia and Policy Effectiveness, will assist renewable energy stakeholders to better understand end-user needs and policymakers in improving current policies.
“Today, some three million Australian households and businesses have installed solar as a better, more sustainable way of producing the power they need,” Nikhil said.
“Last year saw record numbers of installations, despite lockdown disruptions and it’s only going to get busier.”
