New 49.5 MW Vietnam Solar Farm in Quảng Trị

Vietnam Solar Farm regen solar

Regen Power is proud to be associated with solar farm developer, Finance International Pty Ltd , as Owner’s Engineer for a 49.5MWp commercial solar farm with an expected average electricity generation of 70,000 MWh/year. The US$50million solar power plant is the first of its kind solar power plant in the central province of Quảng Trị , Vietnam and is expected to become operational in June. The project’s investor, Licogi 13 Joint Stock Company, is also the main engineering, procurement and construction contractor for this project. The solar power plant covers approximately  60ha in Gio Linh District’s Gio Thành and Gio Hải communes. The solar farm is located close to the sea in a sandy area not suitable for agriculture activities.

It is predicted  that Vietnam’s electricity energy demand is predicted to increase by over 10% by 2020, while energy consumption is projected to increase four-times by 2030 compared to 2014. To meet the growing demand which cannot be fulfilled by sources like coal and hydro, the government is promoting other renewable sources such as solar and wind to reduce the gap between demand and supply. In Vietnam, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is the sole buyer of energy generated from solar power projects. The feed-in tariff (FiT)  for utility solar power plants is VND2,086 (9.35 US cents/kWh) for a period of 20 years. For rooftop projects, the net-metering is 9.35 US cents/kWh. This rate will also apply for excess power generated from rooftop solar projects that begin their operations before the 30 June 2019 deadline and sell it to the EVN.

The main highlights of the project are:

  • Capacity: 49.5 MW
  • Solar Module: GCL SI – 365Wp – Mono PERC
  • DC Side: 1500 V DC System
  • Central Inverter: Sungrow 6.8MVA Inverter Station
  • AC Side: 22kV AC
  • HV Switchyard & Power Evacuation: 63 MVA, 110kVA
