Darlington Point Solar Project Has 333MW Canadian Modules

canadian modules - darlington point solar project

Canadian Solar is a household name in the Australian residential community. They are one of the biggest suppliers of PV modules in the world. An infrastructure of global R&D departments, 8500 employees and 20+ global offices enables them to provide committed after-sales support in 6 continents. This is one of the main reasons why most solar installers in Australia carry their product catalogue. In fact, they have over 10GW panel shipments globally. This ranks them high among the tier-1 solar panel lists. In Australia, over 200MW of solar panel capacity is that of Canadian modules.

For the upcoming Darlington Point solar project in NSW, Canadian modules  will be used. The farm will have an annual generation of 685,000 MWh. Scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2020, this project will bring over 400 on-site jobs and will be able to power 115,000 homes. This solar-battery hybrid project will have 820,000 Canadian HIKU modules (CS3W-P) and 55 inverter stations in an area of 2,000 acres (810 hectares). The panels will be ground mounted and on solar tracking mounts. The PV cells are 400W multi crystalline with maximum system voltage of 1500V. HIKU modules have one of the highest max power outputs and shading tolerance in the solar industry.

This would be also the second project of Canadian solar this year. It was in the beginning of this month that they bought the development rights of a 30MW solar+battery farm in Mannum, South Australia. The project will be in two stages – 5MW and 25MW. Here, the PPA was signed with Flow Power

Costing around $450 million, project finances itself through Octopus Investments (UK) and Edify Energy (Australia). There is also a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 55% output with Delta Electricity.  With the construction due to begin in March 2019, the solar farm is in tandem with 100MWh battery storage facility.

Furthermore, the EPC and operational and maintenance role will be jointly handled by  Signal Energy and Canadian Solar. The project was approved in late 2018.  NSW has projects worth over $26 billion in the pipeline for achieving their renewable energy target (RET).
